Eric Koppert is a fifth-generation native and resident of Knox County, and has spent his entire life in Northern Knox and Southern Ashland Counties.
Eric grew up in Jelloway in Northern Knox County, and graduated from Loudonville High School in Ashland County, and Kenyon College in Knox County.
Eric worked in downtown Columbus for five years after college, but decided to return to the Knox and Ashland County area when starting a family. "I appreciated the schools here, and wanted to be involved in the schools where my children were attending. That's obviously easier here than in the Columbus public schools." Eric has been a member of the Loudonville-Perrysville School Board for twenty-five years.
While making the transition to the insurance business, Eric went through underwriter training at Westfield Companies in Westfield Center, Ohio. "One of my classmates in underwriting training stood out as a natural at the principles and technicalities of commercial insurance underwriting," says Eric. "I think it speaks well of Westfield Companies that that talented student, Jim Clay, later became the president of the company."
"2013 is the 75th anniversary of our agency's contract with Westfield," says Eric. "Westfield's dedication to "sharing knowledge and building trust" is not only the company's slogan, it is the way they do business and the way they contribute to the communities where they do business. Westfield's sponsorship of the well-known Academic Challenge is only one example. Their principles of promoting understanding through education mirror my own reasons for long tenure on the Loudonville-Perrysville school board," says Eric. "I know the only way our communities can survive and thrive is to work harder at learning how to do things better, instead of only working harder doing things the way we've always done them."
In addition to serving as a school board member, Eric is active with the Loudonville-Mohican Chamber of Commerce, and is a member of the board of directors of the Mohican Area Growth Foundation. He has served for many years as the Citizenship Merit Badge counselor for Boy Scout Troop 537, and is absolutely terrible at golf, but somewhat better at singing.
